Launch of The Gianni Versace Company in 1978
That’s right, it all began in 1978 when Gianni Versace opened his first women’s collection store in Milan. He called it Gianni Versace Donna. His younger sister was very much involved in the beginning of the company and was his campaign manager. She has often also been referred to as his muse through it all.
Versace Gold Logo Medusa Meaning
In the very beginning, Gianni chose Medusa to be the logo for his brand. According to Greek Mythology, Medusa would make fall in love with her and forever be under her spell. He had high hopes that people would fall in love with his designs. Obviously it worked.
Gianni Versace Brings More than Design to the Fashion World
Versace took the world by storm. There are over 80 stores worldwide and 123 retail sections in high-end stores. Versace is much more than a fashion designer. To many he is part of pop culture, responsible for combining fashion with art, rock and roll, fashion and theatrical. He was also known as the “Rock n’ Roll” designer because he has worked with so many stars including Elton John, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Cher and Sting.
Versace Begins the Supermodel Phenomenon
In the early 90s, Versace took hold of the runway. He launched his Autumn/Winter collection which caught everyone’s eye and earned rave reviews. . He also released the Haute Couture, one of his second most successful line. All throughout his life, he continued to be deeply respected in the fashion world. He earned numerous awards including The Silver Mask Award and the first American Fashion Oscar Award (you should be the years after the awards in this sentence)
Gianni Versace is Tragically Killed in 1997
At the young age of 50, Gianni Versace was shot and killed in his Miami home. This horrific crime was carried out by a serial killer named Andrew Cunanan who took his own life shortly after. After his death, Donatella Versace, took over as the creative director, while his brother Santo, took over as CEO. Under their leadership, the continue to dominate the fashion industry.
